This area is filled with many dangers, not only the cold & the distance. On our first day after our meeting w/ The Knight I was walking in reverse, as is my often my habit now that I have eyes in the back of my head and I almost fell to my death in a hidden crevasse, the golem saved me and in my scramble I located a blue crystal? That had been growing out of the wall. I cannot identify the kind, it is neither ice nor sapphire. I have been considering the wood elves and their magical cloaks of disguise. And while I know the concept I lack the basis in artificing that, say, the demon, has. But when I asked her for help she said she “just thinks about it” when imbuing items with magical properties. I quickly realized that she has no magical foundations at all, she didn’t even understand the theory of the river! So I have decided to start from scratch. I need to send magic through the cloth of my jacket, and force it, or encourage it, to flow in the magical forms of disguise or illusion. These are some of the simplest forms of beginner magic but my sole textbook “The JacksonSpire Twins Learn to Spell: practical spells for elven youth of inquisitive spirit” does not even touch on artificing. But I belie that if modify a basic trap circle which is a passive device, but have the trap condition be a form of illusion instead (of abjuration or whatever) I could make it work. The problem I’ve run into is power. The magus requires a fair amount and I dont know how to make it draw from he environment. I could loop myself into it but theres a possibility it won’t ground and I could be struck by pure magical energy or permenantaly fused to this fucking coat, or, well, it’s not really worth thinking about.
Not he night when I was talking to the demon about magic we were attacked by several big wolves who breathed ice. When we killed them they had several of these gems int heir chests I think giving them…ice? Powers? Or something? tHe fight was a little manic but the golem summoned wingéd hammers and things and I thought that was neat.
We came to two rivers that meet up and fall. One was pretty easy, easy enough. But the second was quite deep and spanned by only a thin natural bridge I used the demon’s ring to patch the bridge, but I’m not sure that helped. It was a real pain to cross but I crossed safely but the knight, who followed behind me, dragged me off the edge. The monk tried to save us but failed, and the Giant conjured two giant birds who picked us out fo the river, quite a singular experience. Blowing all that money on this silk rope turned out to be a good god-damn investment.

The coat works! I had to route the magic through me which makes it, dangerous, in the wrong hands, but I am a whisper now. We spotted some kind of camp in the distance and reached it around dusk, the smoke we initially noticed resolved into a shitty little stone town, bordered by a frozen pool with various adventurers in it, including a young frost giant, with a big pack tantalizingly out of reach. I tried to use the ring to get it but I can’t unfreeze water.
The town is full of kobolds, we hid in an abandoned farm on the edge of town which world out fine except a drunk kobold posted up on the door and blocked out way out. To locate the dragon we had come to find the Demon suggested I disguise myself as a Kobold, kobolds, at least these, are not particularly smart. I pretend to be a delivery person (which sort of worked) and then a priest (which worked a lot better) we all snuck into the…priest house? Church? They appear to worship the dragon. Disguised as priests, moving officiously, and creating a distraction that the whole place was under attack by an imaginary foe created enough discord that we could easily sneak into the …basement…of the …church. There were many small offerings everywhere that I didn’t have time to steal. As the base of the main stairs there are five passageways, I chose the one that has the glowing lichen. But once we entered it, it immediately had a gap in the floor to discourage intruders, which we laid the giant across and walked on their back. Which I thought was hilarious. At the end of that hall there was a storage room with boxes of scroll (the giant and I nabbed two) and also a big hole in the floor. We had been considering that the Kobolds seem to worship the dragon so there has to be some way for them to access him, so a big hole seems inviting. But when I looked over it a voice called up to me —
