— we were attacked by little demon guys! Little elemental guys. I shot the closest one with a spell and then the giant got twenty feet tall. The giant becomes a real giant then conjures a god damned lighting storm, I‘m out here trying to draw them away from the group and the giant just nails ’em with lightning. Sometimes its nice to be surrounded by wizards. Those demons weren’t the most fearsome foes but they did have some innate spellcasting ability and spot a language we later identified as “ingan“ the language of lava people, which has some loanwords from the language of demons so we had some idea of what they were saying but it wasnt particularly friendly. The Demon, our Demon, Captain Demon, retrained one by hitting it with a magic hammer and then I stabbed it and it fuckin exploded lava everywhere so heads up on that. The giant changed their storm to a snowstorm and really did a number on the volcano, quenching it for a couple minutes, at least cooling it down so we could sort of look around. After we killed the weird elemental birds a fiery snake dude hopped out of the mountain & starts yelling shit at us, the golem yelled back in demonic & it yelled back in ingan something like this: “with affection, for this, her eternal, death” nothing good. Then he disappeared. The demon walked up to the edge of the lava and yelled down if they knew Our Friend The Bard From The Realm Of Fire but there was no response. The librarian in svitoya put us on the track of an Ingan dictionary out of which the giant and I copied a few words and phrases into a brief pamphlet on the language, then we took a rest and headed back up the next morning.
Big news from the caldera, around the edge of the pit is carved a ring with this phrase, copied here and translated piecemeal to the best of our collective ability. Blanks indicate missing words “You are — with affection for the — for this you will die. — by order of her eternal — we will meet again.” This leads me to believe that these snake people worship or are ruled by an immortal or some kind, possibly The First Mother, who was never mentioned to have died but seemed to be, someplace else. As we were working to translate the message on the ring a magically recorded chant resounded form the depths, repeated: “Death to all friends of the betrayer”. There appeared several possibilities to me, Instead of worshipping the first mother they maybe, hated her and were allied with the elves? But if that were true the people of Svitoya would probably have wiped these fools out by now. Next: they could worship the First Mother and the people in town could worship say, a second Mother, and the second could have betrayed the first. Or more likely (but no less amazing) they could be referring to our friend the Bard, who is regarded as a betrayer in the realm of fire and expelled permanently from such. So the Golem hit up the Bard, but he didn’t give a real straight answer other than to dissuade any further investigation into the volcano.
We went then south, down the mountain. The giant has some interest in the elf kingdom of Zamerzot but when I tried to discourage them from going into what would be surely instant death (at best) or endless undying enslavement (at worst) they started hassling me for details about my history with the Fae. I think the Demon knows who my Mom is. The giant seems really interested in who my Dad is and whether or not he could just, ferry us between planes, like to chase the Bard. I told them that we would probably only be able to do that once, at best. The giants dad can turn into a bunch of different animals, which is neat, and on the way down the mountain I found some healing herbs.
We then headed of the mountain and to the southern tundra to the small town of “Leave” where we met a man with a very interesting boat for sale (for 10 grand) but who offered a trade, “something worthwhile” from a “hoard” on “the Cliffs of Dying”. All we had to do was cross the ice and bring him something back, within two months. But we easily found some winter clothes and set off to the Cliffs Of Dying. My dark clothes kind of stand out in this blank white landscpae, but I have an idea of a thing I could make? Enchant? I’ve got to ask the Demon how she makes stuff, magic stuff. We approached a river and set down to camp, and in the night the monk woke me up to go sneak over and surprise a large redheaded woman who we learned (after the monk pissed her off with dark magic) is something called a “knight of persephone” and seems to understand that we are from space. The knight says we are going to fight a dragon, and that we cant kill any of its thralls. We’ll see.
